The Benefits Of Music



As a guitar player, I try to always describe myself as a musician first, and a guitar player second. Why? Because it's MUSIC that drove me to guitar, not the other way around. Music has many benefits to humanity.


Today I just want to remind you of the benefits music offers to our health and well-being.


One of the biggest benefits of music is that it offers healing power.


As far back as ancient Greece, people recognized the medicine of music. The Greek God Apollo was in charge of medicine AND music. The two go together. Listening to music you enjoy decreases levels of the stress hormone cortisol in your body, which counteracts the effects of chronic stress! Several studies have shown that music can lower blood pressure, instill calm and improve neural networks, just to name a few.


Other studies have noted that music helps stroke patients recover, helps Alzheimer's patients remember, reduces pain and elevates mood.


It helps reduce depression and leads to better sleep.


Music can help with weight loss, enhances workouts, and helps reduce anxiety as much as a massage!


In a recent study, researchers found that Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D major (for around seven minutes daily, for three months), reduced the number of seizures experienced by patients who had major medical conditions. After listening to the late composer’s original music they were less symptomatic. Cool!


In short, music just makes us happier which is the biggest healer there is.


So go make some music if you want to make your world a better place.
